The market for game apps is huge - more than 2.2 billion euros were generated through in-app purchases in Germany alone in 2020. One common method is to initially offer games for cell phones and tablets free of charge (Free2Play) and then encourage players to make in-app purchases. A variety of manipulative strategies, so-called "dark patterns," are used in this process. What risks do these pose for children and young people? After all, they make up a large part of the players of mobile games. We talk to Judith Eckart and Anja Schneider from  jugendschutz.net about their research results on the topic of "Dark Patterns - On the problem of youth protection of manipulative game designs in Free2Play apps".
