Now available: "10 Commandments of Digital Ethics" in a new design!

The digital commandments are intended as guidelines for young people and encourage responsible and considerate interaction online. The material, consisting of a booklet and a postcard, is particularly suitable for use in schools and can help improve students' digital skills.

How can we live well together on the web? Four years ago, master's students at Stuttgart Media University asked themselves this question and developed the "10 Commandments of Digital Ethics. For example, "Tell and show as little as possible about yourself" or "Don't believe everything you see online, and inform yourself from different sources" are two of the ten commandments that point out possible dangers on the web.

As digitization advances, it is becoming increasingly important to equip students with digital skills in a way that is true to life and at eye level. To ensure that the "10 Commandments" do not remain just abstract instructions for action, they are accompanied by real-life stories in the revised version. They illustrate the conflicts of values on topics such as privacy or freedom of opinion and show possibilities for conflict resolution. The students received help with the concept from the media scouts of the JUUUPORT advisory platform. They were able to contribute their experience from online counseling by young people for young people and incorporate realistic stories.

Digitalization brings constant change. Once-popular services like Facebook are no longer among young people's favorites for use. Today, it is rather social networks such as Instagram, TikTok or the streaming platform Twitch that are preferred by young people. In the new edition of the "10 Commandments", therefore, outdated ways of use have been replaced by current trends and changes in the digital world.

The flyer and postcard can be downloaded or ordered free of charge.

On the website of the Stuttgart Media University, the postcard is also available for download in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian.
