German Children's Software Prize TOMMI awarded

The TOMMI children's software award takes a positive approach to digital gaming and awards high-quality children's software every year. Last week, the TOMMI 2019 was awarded at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

They came, played and won awards: 3,331 children were allowed to test around 40 games for weeks in almost 20 libraries, exploring the inside of honeycombs, catching monsters, building robots and marble runs. They presented the awards to the winners at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Oct. 18. In the console category, "Yoshi's Crafted World" (Nintendo) and in PC, "Rug Tales" (Purple Hills) cleaned up. Other winners in the apps category included "Thinkrolls Space" (Avokiddo). The winner in the electronic toy genre was "Sphero" (Sphero). The special prize Kindergarten & Preschool was awarded to the game "Fiete World".

The German Children's Software Award TOMMI is under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Dr.Franziska Giffey, and is published by Family Media (Freiburg) and FEIBEL.DE - Büro für Kindermedien (Berlin). Partners of the award are the German Library Association e.V. (dbv) the Frankfurt Book Fair, Google, jugendschutz.net, Partner & Söhne and ZDF.

An expert jury of renowned trade journalists and media scientists makes the selection on the nominations. Every year, they review PC and console games, apps and electronic toys. The participation of jugendschutz.net in the TOMMI ensures that the games are also examined with a view to data protection and advertising. However, children have the final say in the TOMMI. They decide which of the nominated games win. In the process, the children's jury tests in various libraries.
