Safer Internet Day 2021Safer Internet Day 2021: Who do I believe? Action day on opinion formation between fact and fake

klicksafe calls for participation and offers extensive material

How do we shape opinions in the digital space? How do we deal with opposing views? How do we recognize misinformation on the Internet? And what skills do children and young people in particular need for this? On the occasion of the nationwide action day on February 9, 2021, klicksafe will focus on "Opinion formation between fact and fake.

Ludwigshafen/Düsseldorf, 03.12.2020 - Whether fake news and conspiracy narratives, elections infiltrated with disinformation or baseless rumors: Anyone who informs themselves on the Internet is exposed to a wide range of news, some of which is not news at all. Deciding who to believe can be as difficult as it can have serious consequences. Children and young people in particular need skills to form their opinions between established media and social media channels.

By making "Opinion formation between fact and fake" the theme of Safer Internet Day 2021, the EU's klicksafe initiative is creating space for debate at numerous levels:

  • For school lessons, klicksafe experts have developed the new teaching material "Ethik macht Klick. Forming Opinions in the Digital World", which will be published in time for SID 2021. Projects and working materials for educational work will soon be available in advance as a compact download package at klicksafe.de/sid .
  • In social networks, content and discussions will be available under the hashtags #WerMachtMeineMeinung and #SID2021 .
  • All interested parties are encouraged to participate in the day of action themselves. Planned actions can be entered at klicksafe.de/sid .

klicksafe is calling on institutions, foundations, companies, schools, youth organizations, educational institutions, associations and also private individuals throughout Germany to participate in Safer Internet Day on February 9, 2021, with their own contributions and projects. There are many ways to do this - due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, a broader range of digital formats, virtual workshops and online information around the topics of Internet safety and media literacy can be expected.
A central event without an audience is being planned and will be broadcast on the Internet on the day of action.
