Information about Safer Internet Day

What is Safer Internet Day

Every year in February, many people and institutions around the world use the slogan "Together for a better Internet" to campaign for improved security on the Internet. Children and young people in particular should be supported in their self-determined and responsible use of digital media.

There are many starting points: respectful interaction with one another, the promotion of media competence, the creation of an adequate legal framework, and the provision of high-quality services for children and young people.

Accordingly, a wide variety of institutions, companies and private individuals are participating in Safer Internet Day: schools, kindergartens, institutions under public law and politics, but also parents, children and young people - everyone can contribute to better interaction in the digital sphere.

What are the goals of Safer Internet Day?

    • Promote awareness around the confident and responsible use of digital media.
    • motivate people of all ages to deal with safety on the Internet
    • draw public and media attention to the topic of "Safer Internet
    • Initiate active participation of institutions, organizations, associations, companies, initiatives, schools, and private individuals at national, regional, and local level as part of a worldwide campaign.
    • Inform about and promote international cooperation within the framework of the European Commission's DIGITAL program.

    Topic focus

In keeping with the overarching motto "Better Internet for kids" and current events, klicksafe highlights a special topic each year.

Under the hashtag #OnlineAmLimit, klicksafe 2023 is dedicated to the question of up to what point media use is okay and at what point we fall into the digital stress trap. What skills do adults, children and young people need for a healthy balance? And how can binding rules be established for media consumption in jobs, school and leisure time?
