Distinguishing fake news from true information, seeing through dissemination intentions, assessing sources and forming one's own opinion is often not that easy in today's media jungle.

As part of Safer Internet Day 2023, the Karlsruhe Public Library is training an 8th grade class to become "Fake Hunters". In the simulation game, the young people work as employees of a detective agency that receives an order from a newspaper publisher to investigate a dubious news portal suspected of spreading false information. They learn why fake news is problematic, how to identify it, and how to debunk it using concrete testing tools.

The FakeHunter project was developed by the Büchereizentrale Schleswig-Holstein and is available to other libraries as an open educational resource (OER).
