On the one hand, there are major concerns that pornographic content could harm young people in their own sexual development. On the other hand, there is a lack of sufficient research to actually verify these concerns. Madita Oeming summarizes the current study situation and explains the circumstances under which pornography use can have negative consequences for young people.

Video 5: "Porn literacy" - What does that mean?

Talking about young people and pornography usually has two objectives: To protect adolescents from negative effects and to strengthen skills so that young people can deal with online content in a self-determined and responsible manner. This also includes dealing with pornography. Media psychologist and scientist Nicola Döring has developed the educational approach of so-called "pornography literacy" as genre-specific media literacy. Madita Oeming explains what this is all about and how young people can be sensitized to pornography.
