Digital living environments - opportunities and risks

Digital media are used in our society on a daily basis and across all generations. They offer many opportunities and possibilities, but also harbor risks and dangers. This year, the Mannheim City Library is once again organizing its "Media Parents' Evening" on the topic of "Digital Living Environments - Opportunities and Risks" with a themed bazaar and two specialist presentations.

Parents, educators and anyone else who is interested can attend

in the central library in town hall N 1 (second floor)

6:30 p.m.: Start of the themed bazaar
7:00 p.m.: Video message from Education Mayor Dirk Grunert
7:10 p.m.: Lecture: "Extremist content on youth-oriented platforms". Franziska Böndgen,
8:15 p.m.: Lecture: "Media dangers and behavioral tips from your police". Knut Krakow, Prevention Department of the Mannheim Police Headquarters

At the themed bazaar, numerous media experts from the region will provide advice on various issues relating to media education. Represented with themed tables:

- Mannheim City Library
- Mannheim City Media Center
- Addiction Counseling Center run by Caritasverband Mannheim e.V. and Diakonisches Werk Mannheim as well as the Addiction Prevention Department of the Youth Welfare Office and Health Department of the City of Mannheim.

The first lecture by Franziska Böndgen, a specialist in political extremism at, is entitled "Extremist content on youth-oriented platforms". The presentation will take a look at the most important youth-oriented platforms and how they function, some of which are misused by extremist movements. It will also present the topics that extremists use to present themselves in a seemingly harmless way and thus connect with young people.

The second presentation of the evening will be given by Knut Krakow from the Prevention Department of the Mannheim Police Headquarters. Under the title "Media dangers and behavioral tips from your police", the police superintendent will explain the dangers in everyday media life and give valuable tips on how to protect yourself from them.

At the "Educator Info Point", certificates of attendance for educational professionals will be issued on request.

The event ends at around 9 p.m. and admission is free.
