A majority of people in Germany feel inhibited from actively expressing their own opinions in comment columns because they fear hostility. Hate speech impairs mental health and reinforces prejudice and discrimination. And taking action against it is associated with many difficulties.
What impact does the increased occurrence of hate speech have on the culture of debate? What legal options are there for taking action against hate speech and hostility and what options are there for contributing to constructive and fair interaction on the internet?
As part of the event series "Kulturwandel durch Digitalisierung. Attitude as the key to change", Deborah Woldemichael from klicksafe will take part in a panel discussion. Prof. Dr. Valentin Dander has been invited as the second panelist. He is an educational scientist and professor of media education and educational media work at the Clara Hoffbauer University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (HCHP) and project manager for the GMK in the competence network against online hate. The event will be moderated by Christian Gottas from the educational center of the dioceses in the state of Hesse.
