Updated guide: Netflix, Disney+ & Co - Using streaming services safely

The use of streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video is part of everyday life for many families. Of course, it's not just the parents who watch, but many children also watch or even use the services on their own. We show how parents can safely set different streaming services for their children in a detailed guide, which is now available revised and updated.

Last year in particular, the number of users of streaming services increased in the wake of the Corona pandemic. Many young people also spent more time streaming series and movies online. According to the latest  JIM Study 2020, 84% of young people have access to a video streaming service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Depending on the age group, children and young people are already using streaming services largely on their own. Some may even have their own profile on Netflix, Amazon or Disney+. This makes it all the more important for parents to know how to protect their children from unsuitable content. Streaming services offer different ways to do this.

Our guide for the four streaming services Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Joyn PLUS+/maxdome shows how parents can set up access in a child-friendly way. Also included are tips on how to use streaming services in everyday family life.
