Children's software award TOMMI 2020: Winners announced

Almost 900 children across Germany tested the games and educational software nominated by a jury of experts. This year, the winners were honored for the first time live on KiKA and on kika.de on October 17. Since 2002, the TOMMI has been awarded every year to outstanding digital games for children from an educational point of view. For the first time, a prize was also awarded in the new "Education" category.

The Switch Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) won in the console category and SpongeBob Square Pants - Battle for Bikini Bottom (THQ Nordic) in the PC games category. Other winners in the apps category included Die kleinen Löschmeister (Versicherungskammer Bayern). This app was also awarded the special prize Kindergarten and Preschool. The winner in the Electronic Toys category was Lego & App: Lego Super Mario Adventure (LEGO). In the new Education category, Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece (Ubisoft) was pleased to receive an award.

The Germany-wide media project TOMMI is under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Dr. Franziska Giffey, and is published by FEIBEL.DE - Büro für Kindermedien (Berlin). Partners of the award are the Auerbach Foundation, the German Library Association e.V. (dbv), Dein SPIEGEL, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Familie & Co, Frankfurt Book Fair, Google, jugendschutz.net, KiKA, mobilsicher.de, Partner & Söhne and the ZDF children's and youth program.

An expert jury of renowned trade journalists and media scientists makes the selection on the nominations. Each year, they review PC and console games, apps and electronic toys. jugendschutz.net 's participation in the TOMMI ensures that the games are also examined with a view to data protection and advertising. However, children have the final say in the TOMMI. They decide which of the nominated games win. The children's jury tests games in various libraries.
