BZgA raises awareness of the risks of excessive Internet use

The German Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) is issuing a press release on the occasion of Safer Internet Day 2020 in which it points out the negative effects of excessive media consumption.

The BZgA study results show that 22.4 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds nationwide have problematic media consumption. Another 5.8 percent are affected by a computer game- and Internet-related disorder. There has been a clear increase in this area in recent years.

Dr. Heidrun Thaiss, head of the BZgA, explains: "The intensive use of digital media is often accompanied by a lack of exercise and concentration problems among young people. That's why it's important to inform young people about the positive aspects of digital media use, but also about the possible negative consequences."
